A mom beats addiction: the redemption of Rachel Gonzalez Pinto
An addiction to alcohol had taken its toll on Rachel Gonzalez Pinto’s life in a variety of ways before she arrived at IU Health West Hospital, but the most painful impact was that she had lost custody of two sons. And now, unaware that she was even in labor, she was giving birth to a daughter, who born premature and unresponsive. Fortunately, little Milani survived – and so did her mom, thanks to the support of the IU Health West Addiction Treatment & Recovery Center, which, through a gift from the Irsay family’s and Indianapolis Colts’ Kicking the Stigma initiative, helps others in the community who are struggling with substance abuse.
