Jefferson and Mary Shreve provide lead gift for new IU Health Bloomington hospital

Crystal Miller, president of Indiana University Health Foundation and chief philanthropy officer for IU Health, and Brian Shockney, president of IU Health South Central Region announced today a new philanthropic investment from Jefferson and Mary Shreve.

The Shreve gift will support high-priority initiatives at IU Health Bloomington at the new Indiana University Regional Academic Health Center and serve as a catalyst for others to give. The gift, along with a match, is providing $3 million in total for the new project and is establishing “The Shreve Atrium,” serving as the main entrance for the hospital and creating a sense of place for patients, visitors and patient families. The Shreves’ gift represents the largest ever private gift to IU Health Bloomington Hospital.

“We hope that upon entering this atrium, people will be hopeful for their healing and will feel comforted by the surroundings,” Mary Shreve said.

The Shreve gift supports high-level initiatives, such as wellness, cardiac rehabilitation and integrating cancer care services at the new regional health campus to ensure the most advanced cancer diagnosis and treatment options are conveniently accessible in one location.

“It’s critically important that family members have the ability to be present and provide support for their loved ones,” Jefferson Shreve said. “Mary and I are thrilled that all of these services will be offered for the first time ever under one roof in Bloomington.”

Jefferson Shreve has long supported the mission of IU Health Bloomington, serving on both the hospital board and the board of the Bloomington Hospital Foundation. He and his wife Mary are committed to the health and well-being of Hoosiers in south-central Indiana. The Shreves’ gift represents the largest ever private gift to IU Health Bloomington.

“The Shreves are leading the way as they understand the importance of this regional academic health center in our ability to transform Indiana’s healthcare beginning in south-central Indiana,” says Brian Shockney, IU Health South Central Region president. “This transformative gift will allow us to offer exciting innovations in the way healthcare and medical education are delivered.”

The new hospital campus is expected to open in late 2021.
