Making a change in Black infant mortality rates

Cradle Indy is a philanthropy-funded initiative to address Indiana's abysmal infant mortality rates, especially for Black families, who lose babies under a year old at twice the rate of white babies. Terri Lee, MPH, CCHW, spent 2023 assembling the Cradle Indy coalition of partners and creating a four-year strategic plan.

Plan priorities address pregnancy intendedness, low birth weight and preterm births, safe sleep, breastfeeding and social determinants of health - environmental and social factors that contribute to a person's overall well-being, such as food security and safe housing. The overall goal: reduce the causes of infant mortality rates in Marion County.
