Medical Legal Partnership improves long-term medical benefits with legal assistance

In some cases, caring for patients extends beyond the medical realm. When a patient faces legal problems that will complicate their discharge from a hospital, the Medical Legal Partnership (MLP) can step in to help. Funded by philanthropic support, the MLP serves as a collaboration between Indiana Legal Services (ILS) and each hospital's Integrated Care Management (ICM). When ICM identifies a patient in need of legal assistance, they bring in ILS for legal guidance. This helps a patient needing a divorce for a safe discharge, public housing assistance, last will and testament cases, and more. The MLP allows IU Health to achieve its vision of making Indiana healthier by taking care of patients' well-being, not just their healthcare.
