Designed with you: A promise that begins in the brain

At IU Health, we recently made a quiet shift in our brand promise. One word changed — but it changed everything.

We moved from “The Best Care, Designed for You” to “The Best Care, Designed with You.”

It’s a subtle shift. But it speaks volumes.

Because when it comes to health, partnership isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

This isn’t about marketing. It’s about meaning. It’s about how we show up — how we listen, how we learn, and how we lead. It’s about ensuring that Hoosiers receive care shaped not just by clinical expertise, but by their voices, their stories, and their humanity.

Nowhere is this more evident than in our work in neuroscience.

Where Science Meets Soul

Neuroscience is more than a service line. It’s a calling.

I still remember my first role in healthcare — serving as director of development for the Department of Psychiatry at UNC Chapel Hill. At the time, our team led the nation’s largest funded NIMH study on schizophrenia treatment. That research didn’t just live in academic journals. It lived in the lives of patients who received cutting-edge care years before it reached the rest of the country.

Today, I see that same spirit alive in Indiana.

IU Health and the IU School of Medicine are leading groundbreaking research into Alzheimer’s disease and dementia. It’s work that doesn’t just push science forward — it pulls families together. It offers hope where there was once only uncertainty.

The Brain: Where Care Begins

Neurological illness doesn’t just affect the body. It touches every part of who we are — our thoughts, our memories, our personalities.

The brain is the foundation of our identity. And when it’s threatened, we feel it deeply.

That’s why the IU Health Neuroscience Center is so vital. It’s not just a place — it’s a promise.

A promise to treat the brain, spinal cord, and nervous system with the reverence they deserve.
A promise to see each patient not as a diagnosis, but as a person.
A promise to honor the uniqueness of every mind we encounter.

Because no two brains are the same. And that means no two people are the same.

Innovation Rooted in Compassion

Our commitment to neuroscience is not static — it’s evolving.

Recently, we brought behavioral health under our neuroscience institute umbrella, ensuring that therapists, counselors, and social workers collaborate with researchers and clinicians to treat depression, anxiety, addiction, and more.

It’s a holistic approach — one that reflects the complexity of the human experience.

And it’s made possible by people like you.

Philanthropy fuels our progress. It helps us recruit leaders like Dr. David Purger and Dr. Na Tosha Gatson through our Master Clinician program. It empowers families like the Koorsen-Hoffmans to invest in training the next generation of specialists in neuroimmunology and neuro-ophthalmology — so Hoosiers don’t have to leave home to find expert care.

It brings music therapy to patients navigating ALS. It helps families find their way through the maze of neurological care. And through our century-long partnership with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway — and the more than $20 million raised through Rev — it puts neuroscience and trauma care at the heart of clinical innovations for IndyCar drivers and everyday Hoosiers alike.

A Shared Journey Toward Better Health

Across IU Health, you’ll find professionals who embody the same spirit — innovative, collaborative, and deeply compassionate.

They’re not just treating illness. They’re walking alongside patients, designing care that fits not just the condition, but the person.

That’s why we changed our promise. Because care isn’t something we give to you. It’s something we build with you.

And when you choose to support IU Health as a donor, you’re not just investing in our future — you’re investing in yours.

Research shows that generosity itself improves health: lowering blood pressure, reducing stress, deepening community connection, and even extending lifespan.

But if you give to anything philanthropically, you already know that. You’ve felt the joy of giving. You’ve seen the ripple effects of compassion.

So as you consider your next gift — whether it’s for neuroscience or another cause close to your heart — know that your generosity is shaping the future of care in Indiana.

And we’re grateful to walk that path with you.

Together, we’re not just designing care.
We’re designing hope.
